The Institute of Materials Science of Aragón (ICMA) was created in 1985 as a co-venture between the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas and the Universidad de Zaragoza as a permanent center of the two institutions.

Currently, ICMA facilities are distributed in two locations, one in the Faculty of Science, located on the campus of the Plaza San Francisco, University of Zaragoza, the other in the Torres Quevedo Building Campus Rio Ebro.

About 250 researchers develop their research work at the ICMA , supported by technical and administrative staff.

The Institute aims to be a center of excellence in two areas: Science and Technology of Materials and Chemical Science and Technology, promoting the scientific and technical level members and departments.
